Monona is a special friend of mine, all the way from first grade. As a kid, I knew from Monona that her mom worked as a scientist who was, as Monona put it, "working on the cure for the common cold." Wow -- was I impressed. She was an elegant woman who navigated her life's many challenges while raising a super smart, compassionate daughter who remains a good friend today.

I honor the love tradition that flows from Florence and Dorothy to Fay, to Monona, to Maya. Thank you so much for sharing the memories of such a remarkable legacy. To me, that´s just another name for quiet perfection.

I treasure having known Fay, learning from her joy and intelligence, and being incredibly fortunate to have her family in my life for so many years and so many occasions -- important and day to day. Having her meet and commune and spontaneously dance with my mother was both singularly beautiful and entirely predictable. This photo from Fay's book party shows how she made me feel!

I did some copy editing for "Riding with the Wind" and it remains one of my favorite jobs. Fay was a graceful writer with wonderful stories to tell.

Fay and I were in a Brown Bag group together. She had such encouraging words for me when my son’s wife died at age 37, leaving him with children ages 2 & 4. She spoke from experience when reassuring me they would be ok. That meant a lot. I only fully appreciated her wisdom after reading her book. Thank you for sharing her story with us.

Fay was a wonderful member of our brown bag lunch group for many years. She had such a sharp mind and loved talking about current events and issues of the day. And she had a great sense of humor that she brought to us making our lunches lively and so enjoyable. We were sad that her health prevented her from being with us for the last few years. I’m so glad to have known her.

In my kitchen window, I have an orchid Fay gave me the last time she visited. It blooms continually and gives me such pleasure every time I look at it — like Fay did. Her legacy of affection, intellect and joy will be with me forever. I am so glad she was with her beloved family to the end. A fine life, well lived.

I was honored to have known Fay. As her T'ai Chi instructor at the Academy of Lifelong Learning I found her to be a wonderful woman, full of enjoyment of life & learning. Her sense of humor added much fun to our classes. We all miss her. Roger Thomson
